This anthology contains 27 essays about queer politics, queer activism and queer lives in India. The volume is divided into three parts. In the first part conceptual approaches to sexuality are discussed as forms of politics. This contains for example an essay on compulsary heterosexuality and another one on the medicalisation of homosexuality. The second part narrates untold stories of activism, and critically reflects on the directions of the Indian queer movement. Among the various topics that are being discussed in this part are the rights of trannsexuals in India and violence faced by lesbian women in India. The last part records the personal journeys of queer lives. Eleven live stories are being told. The personal narratives articulate what it means to live a life on the margins of institutions such as marriage, monogamy and family.
