Beschreibung:
South Africa is the first country in the world to constitutionally guarantee nondiscrimiination on the basis of sexual orientation. Not only has the sexual orientation clause had a profound impact on the lives of people who identify as queer, but also for people who are involved in same-sex relationships more generally - it has opened up a 'holding space' for belonging. Performing queer is a collection of chapters which explores people shaping and reconfiguring sexualities that do not perform as 'straight' - queer people's identifications and expressions of sexuality, and what they say about their lives since democratisation. Contents: CHAPTER ONE: shaping sexuaiities - per(trans)forming queer (Mikki van Zyl) CHAPTER TWO: playing on the pavements of identities (Bernedette Muthien) CHAPTER THREE: 'fat like the sun' (Mikki van Zyl) CHAPTER FOUR: 'taking-up' gay?: a Rape Crisis volunteer re(per)forms sexuaiity (Rachelle Chadwick und Don Foster) CHAPTER FIVE: ten white men thirteen years later: the changing constitution of masculinities in South Africa, 1987-2000 (Oliver Phillips) CHAPTER SIX: how black men involved in same-sex relationships construct their masculinities (Sylvester Charles Rankhotha) CHAPTER SEVEN: sexualities? hey, this is what Black, South African lesbians have to say about relationships with men, the family, heterosexual women and culture (Cheryl-Ann Potgieter) CHAPTER EIGHT: struggles of authenticity (Charl Hattingh) CHAPTER NINE: finding the centre: claiming gay space in Cape Town (William Leap) CHAPTER TEN: balancing freedom and fear: gay men, sex and HIV in the post-apartheid era (Nigel Crawhall) CHAPTER ELEVEN: moving from rhetoric to creating the reality: empowering South Africa's lesbian and gay community (Juan Nel) CHAPTER TWELVE: beyond identity politics: homosexuality and gayness in South Africa (Annie Leatt and Graeme Hendricks) CHAPTER THIRTEEN: facing homosexuality: from an ethic of security to an ethic of hospitality (Robert Vosloo) CHAPTER FOURTEEN: importing law, politics and sexuality (Craig Lind)
