Beschreibung:
In this volume African and Scandinavian writers critically discuss existing concepts of sexuality and sexualities in Africa. The authors develop alternative approaches based on feminist, queer and postcolonial theory. The volume consists of twelf articles. Among the topics that are being discussed are female circumcision and HIV prevention. The book is divided into three parts: under Western eyes, problems of pleasure and desire, female agency. The articles of the first part are all polemic articles against established, mainstream lines of thinking regarding gender and sexuality in Africa. In the second part the articles focus on female and male lust and desire. The third section focuses on female agency. The articles are based on lectures that were being held 2002 in Sweden at a conference called "Contexts of gender in Africa".
