The author Mary Nyangweso Wangilo is a theologian. In this book she analyzes female circumcision in Kenya. For her analysis she examines the arguments for and against female circumcision. Wangilo interviewed 50 Kenyan women from different religions (representing Christianity, Islam, African Initiated Churches and traditional religion). The author emphasises the importance of understanding the social context of gender relationships and culture behind the practice. Wangila argues that for a eradication of female circumcision carefully designed educational efforts that are sensitive to religious and cultural beliefs are necessary. | |
