Beschreibung:
Chinese Women Organizing covers organising activities during two decades since the implementation of economic reforms, and in particular following the UN Fourth World Conference on Women held in Beijing in 1995. In the introduction, the editors state their intention to document a wide variety of women's organising activity, including within the party-state's All-China Women's Federation (ACWF), among social, religious and academic popular groups, and especially in the interstices between these often blurred boundaries of 'state' and 'popular'. The book's highlights include the personal testimonies of several of China's pioneer women organisers. The book evolved from a 1999 workshop, held at Oxford University, which brought together over fifty international participants. The volume presents diverse voices ranging from a noted European scholar of Chinese women's movement history, overseas Chinese feminist academics, a European activist and international development worker based in Beijing, organisers from China, and international donor agency representatives. Contents: Women Organizing in Twentieth-century China (Elisabeth Croll); Chinese Queer (Tongzhi) Women Organizing in the 1990s (He Xiaopei); Feminist Collaboration between Diaspora and China (Xiaolan Bao with Wu Xu); In Search of Sacred Women's Organizations (Shui Jingjun); The All China Women's Federation (Jin Yihong); The All China Women's Federation and Women's NGOs (Liu Bohong); The NGO Discourse and Women's Organizations in China (Naihua Zhang); The Women's Media Watch Network ( Cai Yiping, Feng Yuan, Guo Yanqiu); Development and Prospects of Women's Studies (Du Fangqin) etc.
